Some of my earliest memories of safari are growing up in Malawi and heading into the bush with my family in our old Kombi. My dad at the wheel, the van loaded up and me in my Bart Simpson bum bag. We’d just get in and go.
There were no luxury lodges, private plunge pools or fancy safari gear. Often it was simply the camp owner taking us out to see what we could find. My dad always had a camera close by — something I clearly picked up from him.
Safari has changed enormously since then — and I’ve been fortunate to experience some extraordinary places across Africa.
But the things that make a great safari haven’t changed nearly as much.
And now, three generations later, we’re still heading into the bush together.
